Znojmo Fountain
The fountain’s footprint — the archetypal circle, carrier of an inexhaustible range of social and religious symbolism — is derived from the form of the historical Baroque fountain that once stood on this same site. The golden pipe, forming a series of vaults, sits at the threshold between a reference to that rich historical form and the aesthetics of contemporary visual culture. Without usurping dominance over the square, it holds an appropriately strong silhouette: sufficiently visible, and supplying the vertical the square has been missing. That vertical is then able to function on the square even without water effects — in winter, or in some crisis period in the future.
